Japanese Autosport Festival – TT cirquit Assen (nl)

1-04-2007

The 1 st april 2007, the legendary JAF took place on the TT cirquit Assen, located in the north of the netherlands .
This year promised to be even better, bigger and more exciting than all previous years.
Featuring not only show and the famous Toyo shootout 1/8m drag, this year featured also a big drift show and cirquit action.

Once again, the belgian Team Zero Yon went to battle on de drag strip with no less than 3 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R with varying power outputs between 350 and 485hp.
Left at 4o'clock in the morning, we were heading to the track. After the long 4.5hour drive, we arrived just after the gates had opened for public.
After some looking around and having stretched our legs, we headed to the technical inspection, so we could start racing as soon as possible.
There was an incredible amount of drag racers, most of them with super hot rides, build to perform! Jap Power!

After some warming up pulls, we all went to battle time, starting at low to moderate boost levels.
Times were looking promising, but the competition was fierce. After some good pulls, we noticed the competition was hard, so we started to raise the boost a little. All went fine, because the cars were allready mapped to run 1.3 bar off boost, and we were only running 0.9bar at this time.

Boost kept rising, times kept dropping.
The fastest time we could realize was yves, with his 430hp R34 GT-R vspec, he set a personal best of 7.91 seconds (1/8 mile). Tom (R34 GT-R +- 350hp) ran an 8.21 on stock ecu! And philippe (midnight purple R34 GT-R 485hp) ran a best of 8.56.

Finally, the toyo shootout began, witch means we had to choose a time (bracket) and had to race to come as close as possible to this preset time (hence the term bracket racing).
Unfortunatly, the opponents came closer to their preset times, so we all were blown away and lost in competition.
Fortunatly enough , yves ran the fastest time of all competitors (7.91) and took 1 st place home, including price money.

After we were out of competition we went to see the final drift battle. They put up quite a show, which the crowd liked very much. The sound of tuned skylines, 200sx'es and corolla AE86 was incredible.

Last there was a “demo run” on the whole cirquit sporting about 5 nicely tuned skylines, but the drivers looked not up to the job as they were just floating around the track at moderate speeds……..behind an audi RS4 PACE CAR.

After all, it was a great day. Great fun, great cars, burned rubber, good weather ans some hot girls around, always a good recipe for a great day ;).

After we packed everything we went home, for another 4.5h drive. On to the next JAF 2008.
